Scammer Alert!

For those of you that are selling a musical instrument on craigslist beware! I am currently selling an oboe and this morning had this conversation:

Scammer: What's your selling price?

Me: $2700

Scammer:
Thank you for your quick response, i am Anita Jessy Ford , from USCGAir Station North Bend Or.and would have wish to come over and inspect this at your place, but I am presently off-shore. I am satisfied with your asking price and please just make sure it is in great condition as described. I will appreciate more pictures if available and will be sending your money asap. My shipper will be available to pick this up as soon as payment is made. Do you have PayPal account? because, I have a PayPal account that I can easily send money through because, its good for business payments. Kindly get back to me with your PayPal email address and name in order for me to transfer your money asap.Confirm sale to me by deleting the advert from Craigslist.

Regards

Me:
Hi,
Sorry but I won't be able to make the sale.
Thanks for your interests

Scammer:
Due to my present location, my choices are limited and not often available by the phone. I am an honorable woman and you will receive your money cash in hand before this is picked up. However, it's easy and free to open a paypal account. Just go to there website www.paypal.com and sign up a personal account there. Paypal is the world leading payment master that protects both buyer/seller interest. You are on a secured transaction with paypal. Above all, it's like instant cash. As soon as you open an account, get back to me with the name and email that you linked with your paypal account and I will have your money sent asap. And due to the nature of my job and having being a paypal customer for the past 18 months with no charge back, I feel more comfortable sending my funds via paypal due to there various security measures at ensuring safe and secured transaction between both buyer/seller. But, if you feel otherwise, I totally understand

Regards

Me:
Hi,
I'm sorry but no sale. I only sell locally.
Thank you for your interests

Scammer:
like i said earlier i am busy here at the base and have no permission to move out of the base including phone access.i would have love to do this deal via western union hence why i said this transactions should be done via paypal but which you can just drop me a voice message since i won't be around to answer to your calls((732) 366-3276) kindly
get back to me with your paypal info in order for me to transfer your money into your account.

Regards

Me:
Hi,
I'm sorry but like I said before I only sell locally and I absolutely do not wire or do money transfers via western union. I'm sorry about your situation and your busy schedule but these are my conditions. If you want to have someone come out and inspect it and hand to me in cash the price I'm asking for then that's another story. If not then I feel you are wasting your time. Frankly speaking, I feel that you not being able to communicate over the phone and wanting to use western union and paypal methods sounds pretty much like a scam to me.

Sounds an awful lot like this conversation huh:

If you're selling on craigslist be careful! These people evidently say there going to buy and then use a fake paypal account and steal your money with the shipping fees they want you to pay for. Craigslist is a good site for selling and other sorts of things and its nice that there isn't any fees associated with the sale like with eBay and amazon but you have to be carful and sell locally!! If they don't want to talk on the phone or meet in person then look it up and see if its a scam! I'm so glad I caught this before I was scammed! Lord knows I have no money for scammers =(

I received the same scam message with the same language and weird grammar. We are selling a piano.
I actually didn't bother writing back to them but I did report it to CL.

Yeah I shouldn't have answered back either. I also reported them to craigslist too. Thanks for your comment.
